What is culture - contraculture: education, philosophy, art, science, life, death, pain, truth, lies

life, politics, philosophy, and culture

Appeals to Authority or Evidence?:

The American Republic Will Fall
Every great empire to exist in history has fallen. Every previous free society has fallen, and there are always the same telltale steps. The United States of America have taken every single one of these steps under the Bush administration.

Humans Need A Balance of Power
Human nature is not important when it comes to determining the actions of the lowest common denominator. The facts remain that every area with a sufficient population will have a criminal element, and that criminal element will prey on the weak, because they are weak. If everyone is armed, if all citizens have a balance of power, then you dissuade the strong from attacking the weak outright.

Heaven Forbid
someone able to think without a university degree!?!?!?

Feminism Causes Inequality
Feminism doesn't reduce the "raunch culture" of "Girls' gone Wild" and having sex promiscuously, it enhances it. For when women become equal in our society, they become equal to the lowest kind of man, and their equality frees them to do the same debased things. I didn't say this - Mary Wolstencraft did a couple hundred years ago.

Soilent Green is Teenagers?
Oh dear God, has it come to this? There is nothing wrong with the aged living life to its fullest. Perhaps, however, that they are living (and want to live) the life of a teenager... where are our old and wise mentors? Where are the families living with the old?

Philosophy is Useless?
Philosophy is useless if you define the good as making money to get material pleasures. Problem is you would have to use philosophy to prove or determine that. Therefore, philosophy cannot be useless.

The Young Radicals
The Youth are always radicalized versions of old conservatives, and in a Democracy, rebelling angrily and confusedly against what they perceive as the conservative regime... (Collumbine anyone?)

State of Love and Trust
They have better social programs than America exactly because they are not us. That is to say, not Capitalists. Democracy is Oligarchy in disguise...

Creationism and Darwinism in Amercian Schools
For fuck's sake - they are BOTH dogmatic viewpoints. Science IS the new religion the masses all believe in dogmatically. Any theory must be critiqued based solely on its predictabillity value, THAT'S ALL.

Einstein was a True Philosopher, not a Physicist
Maybe a little from column A and a little from column B

Huh?
In science, we try to prove our hypotheses silly. Not disprove them...

Universities lack true education
Slowly but surely, the mainstream critics / artists notice. And counter culture becomes culture proper...

What if Rousseau was a moron?
How can the children be strong when the teachers are so weak?

Canned Music Makes Canned Mind
Think outside the can? Odds are you can't anymore...

Dialogues:

Philosophy and Science: Part 1
The usefulness of philosophy and philosophical knowledge.

Philosophy and Science: Part 2
Certainty, Indubitability, Self-Evidence, and Contingently True Propositions.

Essays / Rants / Ideas:

Plato's Cave
A Grade 5 representation of Plato's Cave allegory

The Soul Map
An image of Plato's digression of the regimes / souls from Book 8 of the Republic coupled with Plato's conception of the Good (Book 7) - It is required to understand the dialogues fully.

Categories of Knowledge Claims
I've been trying to generate a category of knowledge claims for my own clarification. Here are my thoughts so far, from most indubitable to least indubitable...

Pain, Completion, Happiness and Philosophy
What is the meaning of life? No really. It's a simple question...

The Outside and Inside Views of Morality
From the outside, that is to say, out of human life, irrespective of human values, universally speaking, there is no apodictic, certain or even convincing reason to say anyone ought to truthfully (or even probably) do anything...

Language Games = Mind Games
The truth of Nietzsche's discovery in the Genealogy of Morals is apparent when one considers the changes of meaning in the words egregious vs. gregarious and apology vs. apologia...

Present your Apologia
